Our People
James Hughes is the lead therapist at Apollo Massage and Recovery Clinic. As a qualified sports therapist and proud member of the Society of Sports Therapists (SST), He possesses a wealth of experience working in a professional football. He has had the privilege of working with a variety of elite athletes and honing his skills alongside some of the best in the industry. He also has experience working with non-athletes, aiding recovery from routine injury issues.

Birmingham City University: James was a student at BCU for 4 years, on an extremely enjoyable and thorough Sports Therapy BSc course, taught by lecturers with a vast amount of experience in their field. In his 2nd and 3rd year, he worked in a massage and injury clinic at the uni, open to the general public. During this time, he worked with men and women of all ages to achieve a common goal of improving their heath and making them feel better.

Birmingham City FC: During his time at the club as part of the medical department under John Eustace, he was lucky enough to work with some of the best physiotherapists, sports therapists and soft tissue therapists in the country, who in turn, helped him hone his craft in treatment. He has had the privilege of providing advanced treatment and rehabilitation for elite athletes, including international footballers, 2022 Qatar World Cup participants, and former England internationals.

Hereford FC: James currently works as the Lead Sports Therapist at Hereford FC, and has done for the last 2 seasons. He works closely with manager and ex-Birmingham City and Celtic player Paul Caddis to deliver exceptional care and innovative treatment strategies to enhance player performance, prevent injuries, and support the team in achieving peak physical condition. Hereford FC had its highest recorded league position in national league north last season, finishing 11th. They currently sit 5th in the table as of this season, with only 1 current injury in the squad.
He is a fully insured practitioner specialising in massage, cupping therapy, and acupuncture, with extensive experience providing personalized, one-on-one care to clients from diverse backgrounds, including athletes and individuals seeking general wellness.
Working in professional football has allowed him to refine his techniques and build a strong foundation in sports therapy. As the lead therapist at Apollo Massage and Recovery Clinic, he brings that expertise to every client, offering personalised care and treatment to help you recover and perform at your best.
The name Apollo reflects our mission, inspired by the Greek god of healing, to bring restoration, recovery, and rejuvenation to every client who steps into our clinic.
